Ameobi setback for Town

Ipswich Town, 08:15, August 20, 2008

Ipswich's search for a new striker is continuing after a hamstring injury ended their chances of signing Newcastle's Shola Ameobi.

The former England Under-21 international is well down the pecking order at St James' Park and Town had agreed a fee with the Magpies.

But a problem with the 26-year-old's medical has seen the Tractor Boys pull out of the deal.

Portman Road chief Jim Magilton told the club's website: "It's disappointing but you have to be careful with hamstring injuries.

"We don't want a repeat of last season when Shefki Kuqi joined us and suffered a hamstring injury in his first game."
