Jefferies delighted at injury news
Kilmarnock, 15:22, August 19, 2009 ,
Jim Jefferies has been given a boost after the news that goalkeeper Alan Combe may not need to have surgery on his hip.
Killie's first choice keeper had a double hernia operation last year and it was feared that he may have to go under the knife again to solve a hip problem which has kept him out of the majority of pre-season.
Combe was set to see a specialist about the problem but has now responded so well to treatment that he been able to cancel that and step up his training regime, much to the delight of Jefferies.
"Alan has responded well to treatment. The plan was for him to see a specialist to see if an operation was needed," said the Killie boss.
"But we've just let it settle down, he's been able to train and it's improving. So that is a wee bit of good news for us.
"We might have struck a bit of good fortune there. We'll push him in training and hopefully he'll continue to improve.
"Alan doesn't want the operation if he can avoid it and if he doesn't need one it would be a big plus for us.
"He's been diving and has looked sharp in training. He was having pain when he was kicking the ball but says that's not as bad now either."
