Barcelona's Ibrahim Afellay was delighted to make his season debut in the victory over Rayo Vallecano after recovering from injury.
The Holland international winger made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Catalans last season after moving to the Nou Camp from PSV in January 2011, but picked up a nasty knee injury during a training session back in September last year.
The 26-year-old had not played since the problem occurred but came on as a substitute as Barca thrashed the Madrid-based outfit 7-0 to maintain their slim chance of retaining the La Liga title.
Afellay was relieved to be back and admitted that he always felt he would return this term after putting in the hard work behind the scenes.
"You know the moment will come some day but you don't know when," he told the club's official website. "I'm so happy to return.
"I just want to play football. I've worked hard during the team's training sessions and I'm very pleased."
