Bayern confirm Martinez interest
Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes has confirmed his interest in Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez, despite his valuation.
The Bavarians are looking to strengthen their squad after coming away from last season empty-handed and are eyeing a swoop for the Spain international.
Martinez has always maintained that he is happy at Bilbao, where he is under contract until June 2016, and he has no intention of moving to another club.
But Heynckes insists that the player is still very much on Bayern's radar, although the £31.4m fee that Bilbao are asking might be a bit of an obstacle.
"You need to read these statements from Martinez right," he said. "The transfer fee is exorbitant, this is the main problem. Still, it's a fact he is a part of our plans."
