Messi and Ronaldo in La Liga record
La Liga,
Last updated:
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo broke the La Liga record for goals scored in a season, with both netting in last night's matches.
Messi scored twice in Barcelona's win over Levante, while Ronaldo struck once for Real in their 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon, which meant that both players moved on to 41 league goals for the season, setting a new La Liga record in the process. Messi though is ahead in the goalscoring charts in all competitions with 63 as he looks to beat Gerd Muller's record of goals scored in a season, which was 67 and set in the 1972-73 season. Ronaldo isn't too far behind and adding to his 53 goals already this season may help Madrid as they go head to head against Barcelona for both the La Liga and Champions League titles.
