Lionel Messi insists he will try to improve on his record-breaking display in the upcoming season as Barca look to regain the title.

The Argentina international scored a record 50 times last season and has been widely recognised as the best player on the planet. But the Catalans failed to deliver in the league, losing out to their great rivals Real Madrid, while Chelsea proved too good for them over the two legs of their Champions League semi-final. Messi was the stand-out performer throughout the campaign and he insists he will not be resting on his laurels this term. "I begin each season with the objective of surpassing what I have done before," he said. "I don't try to score more goals, I try to improve as a player. I hope I still have margin to continue growing and become a better footballer."
