Arsenal's Alex Song is on the verge of becoming a Barcelona player after agreeing personal terms at the Nou Camp, according to reports.

The Cameroon international, who was the heartbeat of the Gunners' midfield last season, is thought to be one week away from following former skipper Cesc Fabregas to the Catalan giants, just one year on. The 24-year-old playmaker has agreed a £75,000 a-week contract, which will see him at the Nou Camp for five years. Song has made 143 appearances for the Gunners, since joining back in 2006 from Bastia. The north London club are expected to sort out a fee next week with their European rivals, who beat them 2-1 in the 2006 Champions League final. If the deal is done then Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could be starting the new season without his best midfielder and main striker, Robin van Persie, who is hotly tipped to join Manchester United. Barca are rumoured to have approach Song after failing to convince Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez to make the switch to the Catalan-based outfit.
