Azpilicueta bemoans Gonzalez departure
France Ligue 1,
Marseille defender Cesar Azpilicueta has bemoaned the departure of midfielder Lucho Gonzalez to Porto in January.
The Argentine international returned to his former side after falling out of favour under boss Didier Deschamps during the early part of the Le Championnat season.
L'OM have struggled since he left, and Azpilicueta believes the 31-year-old's departure was the catalyst for their recent poor run of form.
"Since he left, we've only won the (home) match against Inter. He was very important for us in the dressing room," Azpilicueta told RMC. "Even if he wasn't on top form on the pitch, he gave it his all and remained professional."
"He never said a bad word. His departure was very bad for the group. It could be a coincidence, but the numbers are there."
