Girard lauds special season
Montpellier boss Rene Girard admits this season has been a special one for his side and is ready to create history.
Girard's men hold a three-point lead over second-place Paris Saint-Germain heading into the final two games of the Ligue 1 season. Victory over Lille today could see Montpellier secure the title. The former France under-21 coach has called for focus ahead of the season finale but says he is excited by the prospect of creating history. Montpellier have never previously won a Ligue 1 title. "For a coach or a player, these are special times. This has never happened in the history of the club, being in such a race and so close to winning something so fabulous," Girard said. "This must be the motivation - the excitement - but we must stay focused on the task at hand. The boys, in their heads, are feeling good about themselves."
