Former France star Robert Pires feels Ligue 1 has a bright future thanks to Paris Saint Germain raising the league's profile.

The 38-year-old played for both Metz and Marseille in the French top-flight before enjoying a trophy-laden, six-year spell with Arsenal. He moved to Villarreal in 2006 and enjoyed a brief spell with Aston Villa in 2011. The former France international winger now works as a pundit for French television and keeps a close eye on proceedings and he is impressed with how things are going with PSG leading the way. "Ligue 1 is getting stronger again and that's good news for France," he told Ligue1.com. "Of course the catalyst is Paris Saint-Germain. "It's very important and I think that what the president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is doing is fantastic. It's one thing to have money, but he's spending it in an intelligent way."
