Rennes closing on Makoun deal

Aston Villa have revealed that there has been dialogue about a possible loan move for Jean Makoun to Ligue 1 club Rennes.

The 29-year-old moved to Villa Park in 2011 but failed to settle in the Midlands and has made just a dozen appearances for the club. He went out on loan for a year to Greek outfit Olympiakos in August 2011 and it appears that he is still way down the pecking order at the club. The defensive midfielder has played for both Lyon and Lille in Le Championnat and it seems as though the Cameroon international could be on his way back to France. "Talks are at an advanced stage between Villa and French Ligue 1 side Rennes with a view to Jean II Makoun returning to France on a season-long loan," read a statement released on Villa's official website.
