Dons confirm Smith signing

MK Dons have confirmed the signing of former England international Alan Smith on a free transfer following his release from Newcastle.

The 31-year-old made 18 appearances for the Dons while on loan last season and made no secret of his desire to return to the club.
Following his release from Newcastle, Smith had a number of offers from higher division sides but says that after being part of the team that missed out in the play-offs last term, he feels he has unfinished business with the Milton Keynes outfit.
"When I came here last year, I felt part of what the club were trying to achieve," Smith told the club's official website.
"I made it clear I wanted to stay. There were quite a few other clubs in higher divisions that were interested in me but I think for me, in this stage of my career, I've come to the perfect place."
