Edwards signs new Dale deal

Rochdale goalkeeper Matt Edwards has signed a one-year contract extension at the club, keeping him at Spotland until 2013.
Edwards, who joined Dale from Leeds in 2009, agreed the deal despite it looking increasingly likely the club will be relegated down to League Two this season. The development completes a memorable week for the 20-year-old, when last Saturday boss John Coleman called on him to make just his third start for the club in the dramatic come-from-behind victory over fellow League One relegation candidates Exeter. Then, two days later, he received a call-up to Billy Stark's Scotland under-21 squad for the game against Italy at Easter Road on April 25. Liverpudlian Edwards qualifies for Scotland as his grandmother was born in the country.
