Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd says he is confident that he can convince Clarke Carlisle to sign for the club on a permanent basis.
The 32-year-old played for the Cobblers on-loan last season, after falling down the pecking order at Championship side Burnley and is now out of contract at Turf Moor. The experienced defender is thought to be being eyed by a number of clubs but Boothroyd is confident he can lure him back to Sixfields. "I think there is a chance [of him signing towards the end of pre-season]," he said. "There are a lot of different variables when you are dealing with Clarke and there have not been any ultimatums."
