Torquay United boss Martin Ling was proud of his players despite a heartbreaking defeat by Cheltenham in the play-off semi-finals.
The Gulls, 2-0 down from the first leg at Whaddon Road, fought hard on Thursday night but found an inspired Cheltenham goalkeeper in their way. Scott Brown made a number of crucial saves as his side held off a fierce Torquay challenge to book their place in the final. Jermaine McGlashan and Marlon Pack scored either side of Taiwo Atieno's equaliser to hand Cheltenham victory on the night and a 4-1 win on aggregate. "For the first 47 minutes we bombarded them. We had six gilt-edged chances, two from the first leg and four tonight, and that's the difference over the two legs," said Ling. "I'm really proud of the players, they've done wonders this season, obviously they've not pulled off what they wanted to do."
