Southend have confirmed that Bilel Mohsni will remain at the club for another year after activating a 12-month clause in his contract.
The Frenchman has cut a controversial figure at Roots Hall since joining in 2010, with his impressive displays often being overshadowed by his regular disciplinary problems, both on and off the pitch. Mohsni was about to become a free agent this summer but Shrimpers' boss Paul Sturrock has decided to give him another chance and is hoping the 24-year-old can once again play a key role in his side's promotion push. "Bilel's contract had a year's option on it and we've decided to activate that," Sturrock told the Echo. "He can play virtually anywhere and his behaviour on the pitch also improved towards the end of last season. We obviously want that to continue and have decided to give him another 12 months."
