Argentine ace contract reports denied
Leeds United, 15:16, July 28, 2010 ,
Leeds United have denied allegations that striker Luciano Becchio will not be offered a new contract at the club.
Becchio has just 12 months left on his contract and reports have suggested that he will be allowed to leave. However, it appears the Whites will try to tie the 26-year-old down after chief executive Shaun Harvey told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds are committed to keeping the striker.
"The story's completely untrue.
"We're committed to trying to keep him at the club."
Since arriving from Spanish club Merida, the Boca Juniors youth product has scored 36 goals in just two seasons and he may play a more prominent role in Leeds Championship bid, following Jermaine Beckford's departure to Everton.
Becchio netted twice on Tuesday against Norwegian side SK Brann in a pre-season friendly which Leeds won 3-1.
