Agger confirms Reds stance

Liverpool, 09:45, December 30, 2008

Defender Daniel Agger has reiterated that he would like to remain with Liverpool during the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old Denmark international, who still has 18 months left on his current Reds contract, was reportedly set to buy out his deal to engineer a January departure after becoming frustrated at a lack of first-team action following his recovery from a year-long metatarsal problem absence.

However, Martin Skrtel's long-term knee injury picked in October opened the door for Agger to return to the starting line-up on a regular basis and he now appears happy to stay at Anfield, despite AC Milan and Real Madrid still being linked with a swoop for his services.

However, when asked if he will stay at Liverpool, Agger told the Daily Post: "I hope so. I don't know what the hold-up is. I let the club do the talking and I will try and do mine on the pitch.

"I am trying to improve. I feel it is getting better and better in every game. I am feeling more comfortable and trying to improve in every game.

"Of course I want to stay if it is possible.

"As I say, the club is dealing with my contract talks and we will take it from there."
