Benitez clears up Parry claims
Liverpool, 12:02, January 18, 2009 ,
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez insists he has no problem with chief exec Rick Parry but must have total control over transfer business.
The Spaniard turned down a new contract offer from Reds co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks on Friday, amid suggestions Parry would be given the final decision on new players.
Benitez has now moved to set the record straight and he has stuck to his guns over which players he recruits in a bid to break Manchester United and Chelsea's recent monopoly on the Premier League title.
"I just want to work with the budget I have. I have no problem with Rick or any other chief executive," he told the News of the World.
"This is about how I can manage the club in the best way for the future. If you have £20million, you can spend £5m on four players or £20m on one player. Who knows the right value? The manager."
Benitez added: "If I have one chief executive or 20 chief executives, it's not the point. The manager must decide how the money is spent."
