Liverpool have reportedly told striker Andy Carroll they will not be rushed into a deadline deal with Newcastle.

The England forward appears to have no future at Anfield following the arrival of Brendan Rodgers as manager and he would like to return to the north east and to Newcastle. They do not want to stump up the £20m asking price though and believe by waiting until the last minute next week they will get him at a knock down fee. Sources at Anfield though insist that is not going to happen and have told the Mirror: "We will only do what is best for Liverpool Football Club, and that means we need time to find replacements if any players go." Rodgers wants to add to his frontline before the deadline but will use Carroll as a back up striker if need be and will not allow him to leave on the cheap, with the club having already forked out £35m for his services and paying him £90,000 a week. Spurs are now also thought to be in the race for the player who has already turned his nose up at moves to West Ham, Aston Villa and Fulham.
