Cup win can be catalyst - Gerrard

Liverpool, 11:52, February 25, 2012

Steven Gerrard hopes winning the Carling Cup on Sunday can kick start Liverpool's season and says the Reds can't rest on their laurels.

Liverpool are looking for their first piece of major silverware since winning the FA Cup in 2006 and are big favourites to get the better of their Championship opponents Cardiff.
Unlike the Bluebirds, the Reds will be making their first appearance at the new Wembley Stadium and fans will be hoping their heroes can handle the weight of expectation upon them.
Gerrard is hoping that if Liverpool do win on Sunday then it will be the catalyst for further silverware, with an FA Cup quarter-final to come next month.
"I'm hoping this is just the beginning for us," the England midfielder told Sky Sports.
"It would be stupid to win the Carling Cup and then rest on our laurels.
"This is an important cup for us but there are other big prizes we want to strive for.
"I honestly believe winning this cup will be the catalyst for a successful period for the club; it will certainly give us the belief and confidence to deliver more."
The Reds skipper will be appearing in his fourth League Cup final having previously lifted the trophy twice in 2001 and 2003, and losing out to Chelsea in the 2005 final.
