Wigan midfielder Mohamed Diame is reportedly set to make a Bosman free transfer switch to Liverpool this summer.
The 24-year-old French-born Senegalese star will be able to leave the DW Stadium when his contract expires on June 30 and Reds boss Kenny Dalglish appears to have stolen a march in the race for his signature. Reports suggest that Diame, who is also thought to be wanted by Premier League rivals Everton and Newcastle, will see his wages doubled to around £60,000-a-week at Anfield. And, if Diame does sign, he will fight it out for a first-team place with with the likes of Jay Spearing and Lucas when he recovers from a long-term knee ligament injury which has sidelined him since last November. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez had hoped to keep Diame at the club after guaranteeing top-flight football for next season, but he admitted on Friday that the player will leave along with three other out of contract stars. "There are four players out of contract and I expect them all to go - Hugo Rodallega, Momo Diame, Chris Kirkland and Steve Gohouri," he said.
