Fight on for Agger

Liverpool, 12:19, June 10, 2009 ,

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has not been promised first-team football despite agreeing a new five-year deal at Anfield.

The Denmark international looked set to quit the Reds this summer after slipping down the pecking order, but he is still wanted by boss Rafa Benitez although the new contract remains unsigned at present.
However, Agger knows he will still have to fight for his place next season with Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel, plus any new arrivals, also in contention.
"In football you can't get any promises from the manager about when you are going to play, and especially not at a club like Liverpool where we have so many talented players all competing for places," Agger told the club's website.
"I believe I am good enough to play regularly in this team and that is what I want to do."
