Gerrard effort delights boss
Kenny Dalglish heaped praise on skipper Steven Gerrard after the midfielder found the net in a 3-1 win over Newcastle at Anfield.
Gerrard, whose season has been hit by groin and ankle problems, came off the bench on the hour mark and netted the clincher in a victory which lifted the Reds back up to fifth place in the Premier League table.
A delighted Dalglish said after a solid victory: "When Steven's not playing he's influential, so I suppose you can add the word hugely in front of influential when he is in the team.
"He's getting back to fitness, which is fantastic reward for him and everyone who has worked with him to get him back to the level he's at now.
"He's always been a huge asset for the football club and he's got a lot of years to go yet and we'll look forward to that."
Victory for Liverpool came as a welcome boost after they were held to draws by Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers in their previous two games.
