Injured Torres dashes back to Spain
Liverpool, 10:04, November 6, 2009 ,
Fernando Torres has flown to Spain to have a second opinion on his hernia injury as worries mount the Liverpool ace needs surgery.
Torres played through the pain barrier in the Reds' 1-1 Champions League draw in Lyon on Wednesday and underwent tests on the problem at a Liverpool hospital upon his return to Merseyside.
He has now headed back to Spain to seek further medical advice amid concerns the striker will eventually need an operation.
A Liverpool spokesman said: "Fernando attended a Liverpool hospital for further tests.
"It is nothing more dramatic than that, it is just further tests as part of his rehabilitation programme."
Boss Rafa Benitez has been managing Torres' injury in the past few weeks and he remains hopeful his talisman will not need surgery despite the fact the troublesome injury is continuing to hamper him.
Benitez said: "Fernando played with pain and after the game he still had the same problems that have troubled him for a few weeks.
"He wants to wait, rather than have an operation. He wants to work with the physios to try to solve his problems, but still he has pain."
