New contract on offer

Liverpool, 09:19, January 9, 2009 ,

In an effort to ensure they receive a fee for him Liverpool have offered Jermaine Pennant a new one-year deal at the club.

The winger is clearly not part of manager Rafa Benitez's plans for the future and, if any club offered anything close to the £6.7million Liverpool paid for him in 2006, then he would be sold.
His current contract runs out in the summer so he could move to a new club for free and Liverpool are anxious to avoid that given that there are no shortage of takers for Pennant.
Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked, while AC Milan also want him on a free transfer. Liverpool had agreed a £3million fee for him to go to Real Madrid only for the deal to collapse over personal term.
