Rafa's contract worry
Liverpool, 10:05, January 19, 2009 ,
Rafa Benitez has again accused the club of being too slow over new contracts for players as Daniel Agger's situation drags on.
The Denmark centre half has been in discussions over a new deal to keep him at Anfield, but they have dragged on for ages despite the fact he wants to stay, increasing the chance that he could join AC Milan.
This mirrors the situation Liverpool found themselves in with Steven Gerrard in 2005 and with Dirk Kuyt and Alvaro Arbeloa also in the final 18 months of their current contracts, Benitez has urged Liverpool to act and act quickly.
"The club has been too slow on Agger's contract," Benitez told the Post.
"Agger is now in the papers because we were not quick enough.
"I was talking to Agger and his agent and Agger was telling me he wants to stay. His commitment to the club is 100%, but they have been waiting and waiting and waiting and they don't know what is happening.
"This could be the same situation with other players. I wanted to finish my contract in one week and deal with other things because I was only thinking about what is best for my club.
"I don't know if it is a worry about Milan but I do know the player wants to stay. He wants to stay and so we can find a solution."
