Reds hit by injury scare

Liverpool, 09:06, August 6, 2009 ,

Rafa Benitez has played down fears over an injury to Albert Riera, after the winger was stretchered off in Liverpool's win over FC Lyn.

The Spanish international came on as a substitute and twisted his ankle late on in last night's 2-0 friendly win in Norway and had to be stretchered off.
With the new season just over a week away it was feared the former Espanyol man could be set for a long lay-off, but Benitez insists the injury isn't as serious as first thought.
Speaking after the game Benitez said: "He twisted his ankle, but I don't think it is serious.
"We had to take him off, but it is always better to be careful with these things."
Liverpool face Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly at Anfield on Saturday before they travel to Spurs for the season's opener the following Sunday.
