Reds keen on Juve star

Liverpool, 12:11, July 30, 2010 ,

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta says Liverpool are keen on signing midfielder Christian Poulsen.

The versatile defensive midfielder, who could be seen as an ideal replacement for Javier Mascherano should he leave for Inter Milan, has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Juve side and is thought to be keen on a move to England.
The 30-year-old, who played in all three of Denmark's matches at this summer's World Cup, did not feature in Juventus' 2-0 Europa League qualifying win over Shamrock Rovers on Thursday, fuelling speculation a move is imminent.
Reds boss Roy Hodgson is actively looking for several players to beef up his squad ahead of the new season and Marotta says the club have enquired about Poulsen.
"Liverpool have shown interest in Poulsen," he said following the win in Ireland.
"But the fact that he did not play in this game is only due to a technical decision."
