Reds stand by their man
Liverpool, 13:09, December 27, 2008 ,
Sammy Lee says Liverpool have no intention of selling Robbie Keane in the January transfer window and praised the striker's commitment.
Keane was the subject of transfer speculation earlier this month after an unsuccessful spell in front of goal since his summer move from Spurs, but the Republic of Ireland international has delivered the goods in recent weeks.
Having scored the equaliser at Arsenal last week, Keane then scored twice in Boxing Day's 3-0 win over Bolton as he tries to prove the critics wrong.
But Sammy Lee says the management don't feel there has been a problem with Keane and the assistant boss feels the former Leeds and Coventry forward can prove a crucial figure in the Reds title challenge.
Lee stated: "We don't feel that Robbie has been out of form, despite what people keep saying.
"He has been working hard, tirelessly for the team, and that is the measure of the lad that he has kept on going."
He added: "People have said things about him, but we know why we brought him to the club and we have had no problems at all with him, whatsoever.
"I do not feel he has ever lacked confidence here, he has kept going and done well.
"We have had no doubts in Robbie's ability or his work-rate, and what he adds to this club is immense.
"We know the quality of the boy, we know what he is capable of and what he is doing for us and what he adds to the club. There is no problem with him here."
