Liverpool are being linked with a swoop for Ashley Williams as Manchester City step up their attempts to sign Daniel Agger.

City have already failed with two bids for Agger and although Liverpool are under no pressure to sell the Denmark star, it is thought a third offer of £20million could tempt them to cash in. Agger still has two years to run on his current contract and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers would prefer to keep hold but reports claim that £20million would be too good an offer to knock back. Barcelona are also said to be keen on the player but they have other priorities, including Arsenal's Alex Song, and that makes City favourites to do a deal. Rodgers will use any cash to bid for Swansea central defender Ashley Williams, who was very impressive at the back last season, and would no doubt jump at the chance of a move to Anfield. Any move for Williams would infuriate the Swans, who are unhappy with the fact that midfielder Joe Allen is also closing in on a £15million move to Anfield.
