Tottenham have launched a move to snatch Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson from under the noses of Liverpool.

Sigurdsson is heading back to the Premier League from German outfit Hoffenheim following a successful loan spell at Swansea last season and Liverpool looked favourites to do a deal. Former Swans boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to take him to Anfield after the player turned down a permanent move to the Liberty Stadium but now Tottenham are reported to have entered the running. Reports claim that Tottenham have offered the player a bigger financial package and he is now considering a move to White Hart Lane over Merseyside. Hoffenheim are happy to let him go for a fee in the region of £8million and it looks as though it will be down to the 22-year-old to decide where he will play his football next season. Swansea are gutted to have missed out after the player had agreed personal terms and was on the verge of signing before Rodgers left for Liverpool.
