Liverpool's bid for Hoffeneheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson looks set to end in disappointment with Spurs close to an £8m deal.
Sigurdsson spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea and had been poised to complete a £6.8million move to the Swans, before boss Brendan Rodgers decided to move to Anfield. It had appeared as if Rodgers was on course to take the 22-year-old Iceland international to Merseyside with him but Spurs have now stepped in and are set to snap up Sigurdsson. Reports suggest Spurs, who are still seeking a replacement for former boss Harry Redknapp, have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder and a move is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
