Dirk Kuyt could be sidelined for several weeks after suffering a shoulder injury during training with the Netherlands squad.
Reports in Holland say the 30-year-old sprained a joint in his shoulder after landing awkwardly and has been ruled out of his country's Euro 2012 qualifier against Finland on Tuesday.
Kuyt, who scored a penalty in the Netherlands' 5-0 win over San Marino on Friday, will now return to the UK after undergoing scans and will report to the Liverpool medical team.
Manager Bert Van Marwijk has been quoted as saying: "He will probably have a few weeks off and at 4pm today (Monday) he will step on to the plane to Liverpool."
