Staying Benitez close to Greek deal
Rafa Benitez rubbished rumours he is set to leave Liverpool and confirmed that AEK Athens centre-half Sotiris Kyrgiakos is set to sign.
The Reds boss spoke out about his future after watching Liverpool demolish Stoke City 4-0 at Anfield on Wednesday and he was quick to deny speculation that he is about to walk away from the Merseyside giants over a lack of transfer funds from the American owners.
Indeed, while confirming his commitment to the Reds, Benitez revealed that he was on the brink of signing Greek defender Kyrgiakos for £2million.
"I am 100 per cent committed to the club," Benitez said. "I was told about the rumours before the game. Maybe it's something that can happen here. But I am staying here for the fans, the staff and the players."
On former Rangers player, Kyrgiakos, he added: "We've nearly done a deal."
