Striker blow for Reds
Liverpool, 10:28, June 26, 2009 ,
Liverpool's faint hopes of landing Spanish ace David Villa to play alongside Fernando Torres have been dashed by the player himself.
After 28 goals last season the race was on for the striker with Real Madrid leading the way but they were closely followed by the Premiership elite of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Now though the player himself has ended speculation that he may join up with Torres at Anfield by stating that he will be staying in Spain and has ruled out a move abroad.
"A week ago my future was clear, and now it's not," Villa told Cuatro.
"I've been through some tough moments, which are partly my own fault, but I decided to put it all aside and I've not thought about it in the last five days.
"When I said I had taken a decision it was true, and this decision is that next season I will play in Spain because it is the league that is best for me, I will not go abroad."
