Talks open with duo

Liverpool, 09:08, November 6, 2008 ,

Liverpool have opened contract talks with Daniel Agger and are set to do the same with Dirk Kuyt in the near future.

Rafa Benitez continues to plan ahead at Anfield and would like to get the pair signed to new deals before their current contracts run into their final year next summer.
Benitez has said that a deal with Agger was very close after there had been some suggestions back in his home country - Denmark - that he was not happy at the club and would be looking to buy out his current deal in the new year.
Benitez is confident the futures of both Kuyt and Agger will be resolved in the next six weeks.
"There is no news yet with Kuyt, but he is another player that I would like to get done as soon as possible," Benitez told the Post. "They have to be done before the New Year.
"In each team you need people with quality, that work hard and with a good character. Kuyt has everything. He might not have a fine touch, but he scores goals, he is not bad in the air and his work-rate is amazing, so he has a lot of qualities.
"With these players, we have time, but we want to do it as soon as possible because it is better for them and better for the club."
