Liverpool chairman Tom Werner says Brendan Rodgers represents a new generation of managers and he can build a dynasty at Anfield.
The former Swansea boss was far from the populist choice, with fans - certainly in the days after iconic club figure Kenny Dalglish was sacked - clamouring for a big-name appointment along the lines of Andre Villas-Boas of even former boss Rafael Benitez. But owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) took advice from various leading names in football as they conducted a two-week appraisal of the best talent available before deciding upon Rodgers. "In Brendan we have recruited a very exciting, talented and young manager," said Werner. "He is a forward-thinking coach at the forefront of a new generation of managers and he will bring to Liverpool a style of attacking, relentless football. "He is an excellent motivator, technician and someone who I think our players will immediately respect and I believe our supporters will also embrace Brendan's brand of football based on attacking principals. "The owners and supporters of Liverpool have a common goal and that is to see the club play among the best teams in Europe and be the best team in England. We believe this appointment will put us on the path for achieving the goals we all want."
