Winger fee agreed
Liverpool, 12:56, January 16, 2009 ,
Portsmouth have agreed a fee with Liverpool for winger Jermaine Pennant and a deal in the region of £3million could go through.
Pennant has been left out in the cold by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez and has been linked with several clubs recently, including Hull, Stoke and even European giants Real Madrid and AC Milan.
However, he now appears on the verge of a switch to Fratton Park in the transfer window, with Pompey happy to meet Liverpool's asking price for a player they paid £6.7million for in the summer of 2006. That is thought to be around £3million and the move should be completed, providing the 26-year-old agrees personal terms.
A statement on the Portsmouth website read: "Pompey have had a bid for Jermaine Pennant accepted by Liverpool. The Blues plan to discuss personal terms with the player over the next few days."
The former Arsenal and Birmingham star rejected a move to Real before Christmas and recently expressed his desire to stay and fight for his future at Anfield.
However, it is thought he has been told by Benitez he is not in his plans and has been urged to move on now rather than leave for free in the summer when his contract expires.
