Bojinov back in business
Manchester City, 10:07, February 18, 2009 ,
Manchester City have been boosted after striker Valeri Bojinov came through 65 minutes of the reserves' 2-1 defeat to Hull on Tuesday.
The Bulgarian international has endured a nightmare spell with City since former boss Sven-Goran Eriksson signed him back in the summer of 2007. The former Juventus and Fiorentina star played only three games before a cruciate knee ligament injury against Manchester United sidelined him for most of last season. And, after battling his way back to full fitness, Bojinov suffered an Achilles injury in the warm-up ahead of City's season-opener at Aston Villa last August which has sidelined him for another six months.
It means his only first-team action in 18 months was a run out in City's Uefa Cup tie against FC Midtjylland on August 14. However City boss Mark Hughes is unlikely to rush Bojinov back into the side too quickly, especially now he has Craig Bellamy and Robinho leading the line plus youngsters Felipe Caicedo, Ched Evans and Daniel Sturridge in support.
Benjani is also close to a first-team comeback, while City's other striker, Jo, is currently out on loan at Everton.
