City linked to Lisbon lad

Manchester City, 10:21, October 27, 2009 ,

Man City's bid to plug a leaky defence could be aided by a January move for Sporting's Portugal Under-21 defender Daniel Carrico.

The youngster has been a regular fixture in the Lisbon club's back four ever since breaking into the senior line-up last season - when he was twice voted Portugal's Young Player of the Month.
Liverpool and Manchester United have both checked on him but Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola' now suggests City are hot on the trail of the defender.
However, the Blues would have competition from Atletico Madrid, who are also believed to be chasing the youngster's signature and have even bigger problems at the back than Mark Hughes' side.
Carrico, who is tied to Sporting until 2013, has a £18million buy-out clause included in his current deal at the Jose Alvalade.
