City star eyes starting role
Manchester City, 12:51, October 20, 2009 ,
Manchester City's Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov says he is happy at Eastlands but wants to start regularly.
Petrov has started just two Premier League games for Mark Hughes' side this season as Craig Bellamy, Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor appear to be the City boss' first-choice forwards.
However, on both occasions where he has started the Bulgaria international has impressed by scoring, against West Ham and Wigan, and the talented playmaker feels he has done enough to warrant a starting role.
He said: "I'm a professional football player and I want to show the manager that I'm in good form and that I should have a place in this team.
"I'm happy here and I want to continue here."
City have acquired 17 points from eight games in the league this season and punters may wish to use their free bet to back City to upset the apple cart and secure a top-four spot. Petrov hailed the fans for their support during City's draw with Wigan at the weekend and believes they can help the team be successful.
He added: "I love the fans because they are all the time behind me when I'm injured and now in this difficult time for me,
"I say thank you for that and the team really appreciate their support, especially in the very, very difficult game against Wigan when we were down to 10 men for 20 to 25 minutes.
"They were our 12th man and they helped us win this point."
