City star in Bayern link
Bayern Munich are reportedly set to step up their bid to sign Manchester City's combative midfielder Nigel De Jong this summer.
The Bundesliga giants ended last season without any silverware after missing out on their domestic title and cup to Borussia Dortmund, while Chelsea defeated them on penalties in the Champions League final. As a result coach Jupp Heynckes is looking to bolster the ranks of the Bavarian outfit and it seems midfield is one area that he wants to strengthen the most. The likes of Atletico Bilbao star Javi Martinez, a reported City target, has been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena, but De Telegraaf is now claiming De Jong is high on the wanted list. The 27-year-old Dutch international, who signed from Hamburg in January 2009, lost his regular starting place last season and only has a year remaining on his current contract. Therefore, it is being suggested that a bid of around 10 million euros could be enough to tempt City into a sale this summer.
