City's New Year targets
Manchester City, 09:12, November 13, 2008 ,
Mark Hughes has handed his transfer wish list to the board who have given him their backing to carry on his 'compelling leadership'.
Hughes has been given the total backing from the board after a meeting in Abu Dhabi and he has slammed as 'hysterical' reports that he could be sacked after three straight defeats in the Premiership.
The players said to be on the wish list are Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz, Chelsea defender Wayne Bridge and Valencia forward David Villa.
City's hierarchy are confident that players are keen to come to the club and follow the lead of Robinho, who arrived from Real for a British record fee of £32m.
Following a two-hour meeting between Hughes, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and executive chairman Garry Cook, the club's owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan said: "Mark has my absolute mandate to implement his plans in the short, medium and long term.
"His strategy is compelling and I'm delighted at the potential he shows."
