Defender not worried by striker problems

Manchester City, 12:00, September 16, 2009 ,

Defender Micah Richards has backed striker Craig Bellamy to lead City to glory in Sunday's derby clash against Manchester United.

Bellamy could line-up in attack as a lone striker with Carlos Tevez doubtful for the game with a knee problem, Robinho and Roque Santa Cruz both injured and leading scorer Emmanuel Adebayor facing the threat of a lengthy ban after his performance against Arsenal last weekend.
City boss Mark Hughes is still hopeful Tevez could play some part against his old teammates but Richards believes the Welsh star has the ability to shoulder the burden of attack on his own.
Richards told the Manchester Evening News: "Craig worked so hard and was my man of the match against Arsenal," said Richards, who had also forced visiting goalkeeper Manuel Almunia to inadvertently put through his own goal for the opener.
"Every time he is in the team, it seems to work out for us - and he delivers. In crucial situations he puts the ball in the back of the net, and I hope he continues to do that."
