Exiled ace will return - Given
Manchester City, 09:10, March 4, 2010 ,
Goalkeeper Shay Given claims Brazilian star Robinho will return to Manchester City after the World Cup finals and be 'a better player'.
The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international custodian, who was beaten by his City team-mate in his country's 2-0 friendly defeat to Brazil at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, is adamant that Robinho's current loan switch back to his boyhood club Santos will not be long-term.
Given expects Robinho to be back at Eastlands ahead of the 2010/11 campaign, despite Brazil coach Dunga urging him to quit England and make a permanent move back to his homeland.
Given said: "He wasn't playing enough here and he's gone back to Santos to play and prepare for the World Cup.
"Hopefully he does well there, does well in the World Cup and he'll come back to us a better player."
"Playing week in, week out in Brazil will help him and in the long- term it will benefit Manchester City."
Meanwhile Given has revealed that he is looking to quit his international football career by making an appearance at the 2012 European Championships.
Given and Kevin Kilbane both broke Steve Staunton's international appearance record of 102 caps on Tuesday night and he would now like to sign off in style.
He said: "It was a great honour for myself and Kevin to have broken Steve Staunton's record, and we both think we can give something to the team to help qualify for the European Championships - I would love to finish with a major tournament.
"If you look at the draw we have been given for the European Championships, then we have got a chance.
"We are really going to have to go for it and hopefully we can end the career at a major championships."
