Hughes - Pressure on Big Four
Manchester City, 11:13, October 19, 2009 ,
Man City boss Mark Hughes has called time on the dominance of the Big Four and insists the Premier League is wide open this season.
Although champions Man Utd lead the way at the top of the table, there were defeats for Chelsea and Liverpool over the weekend while Spurs and Aston Villa continue to pile the pressure on the Champions League chasers.
Hughes' City side failed to capitalise after being held to a 1-1 draw at Wigan although Pablo Zabaleta was sent off midway through the second half at the DW Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Afterwards Hughes said: "There are two or three teams who quietly think they can get into the top four.
"They don't broadcast it so they keep themselves under the radar. We can't help but be one of the teams people think should be in the top four."
The Welshman added: "We have to deal with that anyway. I just think this year has the potential to be as open as it has ever been because the top four teams will drop points.
"That has been evident at the beginning of the season and I think it will continue. It is good for the Premier League."
