Race on for Benfica star

Manchester City are said to be leading the race to sign one of the hottest prospects in Europe, Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira.

The Portuguese giants may decide to cash in on the 20-year-old at the end of the season but City boss Roberto Mancini would not have it all his own way. Oliveira has been on Premier League rivals Chelsea's radar since impressing at Stamford Bridge in the Champions' League back in April and they are ready to make an offer. He is currently on a season-long loan at Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna, where he has impressed the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, which in turn has increased his value, his Benfica deal contains a £24million buy-out clause and runs until 2017.
