Reds star to stay after injury blow?
A groin injury suffered by Fernando Torres in the World Cup final could end Chelsea and Manchester City's hopes of signing the striker.
The 26-year-old Liverpool star, who has only just recovered from a knee-operation, suffered a left adductor injury chasing a long ball in the closing stages of extra time against Holland.
The full extent of the damage will not be known until after a further examination but it is feared he could be out until at least September.
Manchester City and Chelsea have been long admirers of the former Atletico Madrid player and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had even flown out to South Africa in a bid to tie up a deal.
However, the duo's interest in the striker, valued at around £50millon, may wane should this latest setback keep Torres out for months rather than weeks.
New Reds boss Roy Hodgson hopes to fly to Spain this week to persuade the forward to stay at Anfield and will have been boosted by the sight of Torres wearing a Liverpool scarf during his World Cup celebrations at the weekend.
