Spurs confident of Croatian swoop
Tottenham are reportedly confident of signing Man City defender Vedran Corluka, despite Mark Hughes claiming he has had no contact.
The highly-rated 22-year-old Croatian international full-back, who joined City for around £8million from Dinamo Zagreb last summer, has been heavily linked with a £6.8million move to White Hart Lane. And, despite reports earlier in the week that the two clubs had started negotiations, City boss Hughes insisted Corluka has not discussed any terms with Spurs following his impressive display in the 1-1 friendly draw at Celtic on Wednesday.
He said: "There has been interest shown but he played well and I am pleased with him.
"There will always be speculation surrounding good players like him. He has had no contact with Spurs."
However several tabloid reports on Friday are claiming that Spurs boss Juande Ramos is stepping up his bid to land Corluka and hopes to have the deal tied up over the weekend.
Apart from Hughes' reluctance to let the player leave, City will also want to recoup the £8million they paid out for his services 12 months ago so are not likely to offload him with a £1.2million shortfall.
